DeepMind's updated model extends beyond upper-body control to command entire humanoid robots, alongside a companion model for multi-robot task orchestration.
Google DeepMind released Gemini Robotics 2, which the company says can control an entire humanoid robot's body rather than just the upper half as its predecessor did. DeepMind also introduced Gemini Robotics ER 2, a companion model built for video understanding, tool orchestration, and coordinating multiple robots on shared tasks.
The pairing signals DeepMind is building a full stack for physical AI deployment: one model to move the robot, another to reason about the environment and coordinate with other machines.
Whole-body control is the threshold humanoid robotics needs to cross before warehouse, logistics, and manufacturing deployments become commercially viable at scale. DeepMind shipping both the motor-control and reasoning layers together shortens the path from lab demo to production floor.
