Meta's CEO told investors the company is preparing a major push into personal AI agents capable of acting on users' behalf, alongside claims AI is speeding up new app development.
On Meta's Q2 2026 earnings call, Mark Zuckerberg previewed a coming push into personal AI agents designed to complete tasks for users, positioning it as a new consumer product category rather than an incremental feature. He also said AI is making it dramatically easier for Meta to build and ship new consumer apps, with more on the way.
The comments come as Meta continues to pour capital into AI infrastructure and signal the company wants agents to be a distribution wedge across its app family, not a standalone bet.
Meta entering personal agents at consumer scale puts pressure on every assistant maker — Apple, Google, OpenAI — to ship comparable capability before Meta's distribution advantage across Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook locks in default usage. The claim that AI accelerates app-building also previews faster product cycles competitors will need to match.
