After burning millions on AI tools in months, Rippling launched AI Spend Console to track individual and team-level AI ROI internally, then sold it as a product.
Rippling says its own uncontrolled AI spending — millions burned in a matter of months — pushed it to build AI Spend Console, a tool that tracks who is using which AI tools, how much they cost, and what value they're generating at the individual and team level. The company is now packaging that internal fix as a product for other employers.
The tool addresses a problem most operators are quietly living with: AI subscriptions and API usage scaling faster than anyone can measure the payoff.
Shadow AI spend is becoming the new shadow IT — a cost center growing without visibility or attribution. Rippling turning its own pain into a shippable product signals that AI-spend governance is now a real enterprise software category, not a side feature of finance tools.
