This is Microsoft's answer to a crowded field: OpenAI is building its own hardware devices, Google is embedding agents across Search and Workspace, and Meta is pushing personal agents. A single consolidated app is Microsoft's bet on distribution and stickiness rather than best-in-class point features.
Consolidation is a retention play: enterprises don't want to manage five separate Copilot SKUs, and a super app raises switching costs once workflows are embedded. Operators evaluating AI vendor lock-in should treat this as a signal to lock in commercial terms before the bundle ships.
