Google's new Gemini agent plans and executes tasks across business apps, delegates to subagents, and carries its own workplace identity.
Google announced an agentic version of Gemini aimed first at businesses, capable of planning multi-step tasks, delegating work to subagents, and switching between multiple AI models depending on the job. The agent gets its own workplace identity for permissions and auditing inside enterprise systems.
This moves Google from chatbot assistant to autonomous task execution inside existing business software, directly competing with similar enterprise agent pushes from Microsoft and OpenAI.
Enterprise buyers are done piloting chatbots; they want agents that complete work inside existing stacks with accountable identities. Whoever nails permissioning and auditability first captures the procurement budget, not whoever has the flashiest demo.
