Google released a PyTorch migration tool letting developers move apps off Nvidia GPUs, mirroring a similar Amazon push.
Google has released a developer tool making it easier for PyTorch users to shift workloads off Nvidia GPUs and onto alternative hardware, following Amazon's move to do the same. Both hyperscalers have their own custom silicon to sell (TPUs and Trainium, respectively), and reducing Nvidia switching costs for developers directly serves that agenda.
The tooling targets one of Nvidia's biggest moats: the CUDA/PyTorch ecosystem lock-in that keeps developers defaulting to Nvidia GPUs regardless of price or availability.
This is a direct assault on Nvidia's software moat, not just its hardware margins. If migration friction drops enough, price and availability start deciding infrastructure purchases instead of ecosystem inertia, and that's a multi-billion-dollar shift in who captures AI infra spend.
