Apple changes macOS permission rules after disputes with Meta over how much data AI agents like Muse should be able to read.
Apple is changing full-disk access permissions to limit how AI agents can operate on its devices, a move aimed at curbing potential abuse. Meta has argued the existing full-disk access framework isn't sufficient for its Muse AI agent to read messages, a position Apple disputes.
The permission change puts Apple in direct tension with Meta over how much system-level access third-party AI agents should get on consumer hardware.
Platform owners, not AI labs, are increasingly setting the rules for what agents can and can't do on devices. Any company building agentic products on iOS or macOS needs to track these permission changes closely, since they can break functionality overnight.
