Twitch will use streamers' content to train Amazon's generative AI models unless creators actively opt out, its product chief confirmed.
Twitch CPO Mike Minton confirmed the platform trains Amazon's AI on streamers' streams, VODs, clips, chats, and channel content by default, telling users bluntly: 'If this was opt-in, nobody would opt in.' An opt-out option is now live, letting creators exclude their content from training data.
The policy puts Twitch alongside other major platforms that default to AI-training consent rather than requiring explicit permission, prioritizing data volume over creator control.
Default opt-out policies are becoming standard for platforms sitting on valuable creator-generated data, meaning inattentive creators will have content monetized without direct compensation. Expect creator backlash and regulatory scrutiny to intensify as more platforms adopt this pattern.
